The Galaxy

By Eleanor Henderson

From bestselling author Eleanor Henderson comes a sweeping, though-provoking story of a mother's desperate search for her daughter in a near-future America divided by the politics of women's bodies; perfect for fans of Yesteryear and I Who Have Never Known Men

An unexpected pregnancy. A mysterious epidemic. A corporation whose proposed solution controls the fates of both mother and daughter.

Damaris Flynn is pregnant on the wrong side of the border. In the newly maimed USA, where the blue states have seceded from the red, she finds herself stranded in Florida with few options. On the other side of the border, her mother, Libby, is worried about her cows. People are inexplicably dying after consuming dairy, and her organic Holsteins are producing milk that no one wants.

Determined to save her daughter and her herd, Libby finds herself launched into the political orbit of New York's first family and their new social project: a breastmilk bank. Libby wants to believe she's helping the hemorrhaging food system. But pushed to their limits, both women make choices with ramifications that neither could have predicted.

The Galaxy imagines a future where milk, the means of production, and women's rights are all deeply entangled. Probing the ethical questions of America's endless appetites and our jurisdiction over our own bodies, Henderson's novel is a gripping vision of modern life, revealing how close we are to the brink of collapse and how far we're willing to go for the ones we love.
