Continuing the evolution of the Cowardly Lion I am emerging from a darkness filled with death, destruction, and blood, after nearly a year in medical recovery was hard. I "landed" back home, or what passed for home and any kind of comfortable landing. Time in the Nam, and the subsequent surgeries lingered in my mind. I couldn't simply "get over it," as others suggested. My ties to the Marine Corps deepened, and I became involved with police, political, and business insurance forces. These groups were mysteriously connected but hidden from view. I was assigned employment with the Western White House staff and leaders to supposedly finish my military service, and joined the San Clemente Lifeguard team, the local police department, the Jaycees, and a Mass Mutual life insurance agency. Forming a group of wonderful people called the Dwarfs to help unravel the mysteries surrounding me also helped. This destructive, self-protective force of ultimate destruction could destroy everything I worked for to reintegrate into the culture that abandoned me. I did not volunteer for the valley. My family became my foundation, with my wife, my lovely daughter, Mrs. Beasley (her doll), and Bozo the cat contributing to restoring some sanity from the effects of commanding Marines to their deaths in Vietnam. Meeting and building relationships with world-class leaders, while I remained a humble observer, opened doors I never imagined.
