Logical extensions of Star Trek themes by thoughtful and intelligent people

A literal library of material has been written about the Star Trek phenomenon and this book is a collection of material that appeared in "Trek" a magazine for fans of the show. The material in this collection was written while the first feature movie "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" was in production. Therefore, the references are to the original series, the animated series and the first Star Trek books, with the emphasis on the adaptations written by James Blish. Once again, there are some excellent articles expanding on the plots of the original series, reaching logical conclusions based on what is known. Some point out logical inconsistencies between episodes. My favorite article was "On Ship-to-Surface" Transportation" by Richard G. Van Treuren where he describes the immense technical problems with the transporter. It was "invented" by the show's creators in order to avoid having to land the ship but in terms of the technical complexity it is far beyond all of the other technical achievements used to make the show work. A great deal of additional Star Trek history has been created since this material was written and collected, rendering some of it obsolete. Nevertheless, it is still very interesting to read the musings of some of the most thoughtful and intelligent people, fans of Star Trek.

The Best of Trek #3

This was a pretty good book if you like background information. I am more of a story kind of person. I did really enjoy the sections about Sulu's and Spock's histories, and the geneology of the Star Trek characters. I am an amateur chronologists, so these were really helpful to me in placing unknown events into their backgrounds. The book is a little out of date and not everything matches up up perfectly, but what can you expect when the articles were published around 1979?If all you are looking for is stories and adventures, this book has none. It is strictly articles.

The Best of Trek

If you've never read anything from "Trek - The Magazine for Star Trek fans" , don't worry, you're not the only one. I haven't. When i got this book, the only Star Trek Magazine was the official one, Communicator. So, ignoring the fact, I read it, originally thinking it was a fanfiction book. But it was actually a book about facts, opinin and debate. It had intresting situations, about characters from the series, Classic Trek vs 90's trek, Trekkie conventions and more. The book got me more interested in Star Trek itself, and would highly reccomended it for any Trekkie, casual viewer, or someone who is just slightly interested in.

12th edition in the series

Collection of articles spanning conventions to the lives of the actors

Best Book I've read.
