The Beauty of a Room

The Beauty of a Room is Ross Keating's third book of poems. As with his second collection, Piling up Boxes (2020), it announces the beginnings of a new poetry in Australia that gives voice to the experience of living with a spiritual Master. There is a freshness here, a vitality, a sense of humour, and a love for a very personal Beloved who is the intimate presence and guide residing in the heart of the poet. About the Author Ross Keating is a writer and poet who lives in Sydney, Australia. He first heard of Meher Baba (1894-1969) in 1969 and travelled to India on pilgrimage in 1973 when he was twenty-two. Discovering Meher Baba's writings gave him a sense of His divinity while visiting India and seeing where He lived - and finding out first-hand from His close mandali (disciples), how He lived - gave him a sense of His perfect humanity. He has published Francis Brabazon Poet of the Silent Word (2002), which is the definitive biography of the Australian poet who lived in India with Meher Baba for ten years as a disciple-poet. The book covers all of Brabazon's writings including his epic poem, Stay with God, and his creation of an English ghazal, which grew out of his deep spiritual relationship with his Master. He has also published two volumes of poetry. A First Act (2015), which has been described as "a collection of very original works in a style that is both easy to read and intriguingly thought-provoking. As a personal journey, the sequence of poems can be seen as footsteps on the path of spiritual growth, although expressed in unexpected and surprising ways." And Piling up Boxes (2020) which as one reviewer commented, "conveys emotional depth in a lively and humorous way. . . in poem after poem, I was struck by the way Ross, seemingly with ease, goes to the heart of some emotional truth and lays it bare in a way which might seem self-evident but for the novelty of expression." In 2017, he published Reading Stay with God, which tells the story of four like-minded spiritual seekers in the seventies reading together on a weekly basis, Francis Brabazon's book-length poem Stay with God. The atmosphere is casual but the discussion serious. The stories are mainly dialogue and written in the refreshing style of a journal.
