Love this series

I have enjoyed this series since I bought it on a whim. It's a classic story of the under achiever finding something worth working hard for. The art work is brilliant and proportional (something you don't see too often these days) Funny how Usagi looks much prettier in the beginning of book one before she leaves for the neighboring village on her mission. The story is a format that is easy to follow. Some stories divide up thoughts and narration so far that you have to circle around the whole page to figure out what is happening. This book is not like that. The format never detracts from the substance of the story. I appreciate the glossary at the back of the book that explains concepts that I am not familiar with, not being a native of Japan. Or a ninja for that matter. I enjoy reading this, and re-reading this story. Of course, there are some pages that are repeat favorites. But, I'm a sucker for the underdog rising up to the challenge and surprising people. The humor is quite evident all through out the book expertly woven between the more emotional parts. I love the big, strong, handsome leader of the ninja village falling in love with a rabbit and keeping it as a cute pet. And Usagi mistaking the lovely, blonde acrobat for an ogre was precious. The glimpses into Hanzo's thoughts over Usagi are satisfying, and their relationship is moving right along. Unfortunatly, it seems when ever she takes a step forward, she takes a step back. Now, not only does she have to qualify as a ninja to become his wife, but she has to lose the weight she's gained while not in his presence! Poor Usagi. I would highly recommend this story to anyone. Even my 68 year old mother enjoyed it and can't wait for the next volume to be released.
