excellent, practical

This is a very practical, straight forward book with things to do to take charge and address what ails ya. Its quite comprehensive, covering topis such as: fatigue, spacticity, weakness, tremor, walking, sexuality, bladder symptoms, bowel symptoms, pain, speech difficulties, vision, numbness swollen ankles etc etc. Each topic is given its own chapter that first helps to further define the issue and then tips on what to do about it. When I had my last episode fatigue (among other things) was a killer - I only had a few good hours in the morning until I was exhausted. This book has a section on energy conservation tips which I found useful. Other setcions were good too in helping to take action, positive, forward moving action to help myself. Great book - I highly recommend it.

From a medical professional with MS

This book should be in the library of every person with MS. I have often recommended taking this book to the neuro or a GP when discussing a symptom and treatment.Dr. Shapiro has long been considered a foremost authority on symptom treatment. Each time he has produced a new edition I have replaced my copy of this book. Though I am no longer a working medical professional, I keep up on MS research. And this man knows his business.

Truly useful suggestions

This book not only describes what the disease is "up to", but gives very practical, very useful, suggestions on how to deal with various tricks MS tries to pull. There's no "pity" in the book, just good descriptions and advice on how to handle what MS throws in your path. From the discussion on the new therapies, the disease modifying drugs, to how to utilize a cane... very useful information.

Very Comprehensive and easy to read!

This third edition is very up-to-date with the latest of the A-B-C drugs being discussed. Miriads of other prescription drugs used for symptom management are described. It is organized by symptom, each having its own specific chapter. There is a great glossary and appendix on stretching and transfer techniques. A great way to learn the things you need to know to have an intelligent conversation with your doctor. Very informative to anyone at any place along their MS path. I know...I've been puttin' up with MS for over 10 years.
