Very Cute Book

I bought this for my 10 year old grandaughter at christmas and read a chapter to her. I think it is an adorable book and recommend it. My only problem with it is that I doubt she would have understood the vernacular, so basically if you think that using or understanding old south (or should I say dated, slang) english would be a problem for your child, you need to read them a chapter. Besides that I thought I was the best book I could have bought for her, she received 3 from me. Personally I loved the way it was written and so did she. I'm glad I read that chapter to her so she would understand it in that light.

What the Other Reviewers Missed

The book is a great story of how two vastly different generations developing relationship is reminicint of a time when family was important. What the Publishers Weekly reviewers and others seem to miss is that a story that takes the reader through the developing relationship of Sylvia and Miz Lula Maye. A straight forward story of a child's relationship with a centarian, what an interesting idea. Why do children stories all have to be mystical or fantasy. Why not just tell a story about life. That is what this book does. An authentic voice and good story.
