Monograph and Photos of these New York Architects in the 1990s

From back cover: "The young New York-based design partners Peter Stamberg and Paul Aferiat combine a devotion to modernist architecture with a passion for vibrant primary colors, sensuous materials, exuberant spaces, and classic modern furniture pieces. Their widely published projects range from apartments and offices in Manhattan and houses in the New York are to the Long Island Children's Museum, a line of furniture for Knoll, and the renovation of a well-known house designed by Richard Meier. Highly influenced by the color and perspectival experiments of artist David Hockney, a friend and mentor, as well as by Matisse and surrealists such as Duchamp, Stamberg and Aferiat interpret the spirit of historical and vernacular styles with a deep sensitivity to clients' needs. Their renovation of a 200-year-old farmhouse with low ceilings, for example, accommodates a tall family and their large-scale art collection; while space carved within a Manhattan apartment allows seating for six to thirty dinner guests. This first monograph on Stamberg Aferiat showcases 18 buildings and projects with stunning color photography and color-enhanced plans and elevations. Among the projects shown are the 6 houses on Long Island and in New Jersey, six apartments and the architects' own loft in Manhattan, and additions to Richard Meier's Hoffman House in East Hampton and his Clifty Creek Elementary School in Columbus, Indiana." ******** CONTENTS: * Foreword - Joseph Rosa * Introduction - Paul Goldberger * Richard Meier * David Hockney * Charles Gwathmey BUILT * 1996 Hoffman House * 1994 Lounge Seating for Knoll * 1994 Sycamore Creek House * 1993 Long Island Children's Museum * 1993 A Ceramaic Collector's Apartment * 1991 McCabe & Company * 1991 Stamberg Aferiat Loft * 1991 Nelson/Sarna Apartment * 1990 Apartment for Tom and Linda Platt * 1990 Suarez Apartment * 1989 Shumsky/Kronick Apartment * 1988 Kraus Apartment * 1985 Wright Line Showroom PROJECTS * 1996 Persky/Patton House * 1995 Chiat House * 1995 Bradbury/Jones House * 1994 Canterbury House * 1994 Clifty Creek Elementary School * 1993 GMHC Volunteers Memorial * Biographies
