Very comprehensive, teaches time saving tricks & methods!

I was searching for a book that would show me a comprehsive way to keep my home clean without making it my primary focus in life. This book has delivered all I was hoping for and more. First, I am a decent housekeeper 90% of the time. However, not being a professional I was finding it difficult to get the "Merry Maids" clean look by myself. There were some things I was overlooking and other things I was avoiding simply because I did not know how to accomplish specific cleaning tasks. After reading this book I armed myself with the right tools, cleaning products, and methods and found this book really does what it says. I am able to go once around the kitchen cleaning counters, cabinets, refrigerator, stove, etc, and then once around cleaning the floors. The kitchen had the Merry Maids look in about 1/3 to 1/2 the normal amount of time I spend cleaning, and it was cleaner! I have not yet attempted the bathrooms, but I am up the challenge and can't wait to try out the speed clean methods. I should also note that there are various editions of this book by the same author. This one is the longest at over 400 pages. I am not sure what the other books leave out, but they are only 1/2 as long. You will also need to invest in a cleaning apron to make this work. I purchased the McGuire Nicholas 72489SBT 5-Pocket Handyman's Tool Pouch, Olive and it is serving me well, but the author sells an even better one that fits his system better. I also found that when you buy your trigger spray cleaners be sure to buy ones with LONG triggers so they will stay hooked into the apron well.

Help for the cleaning impaired

This book gives specific advice for tackling major cleaning jobs around the house. The focus is not on hints and tips for tackling the details but on the approach to use and how to do it. Speed Cleaning, another book by Jeff Campbell, is for doing weekly cleaning. Spring Cleaning is for infrequent large cleaning jobs, but it also has advice for tackling the weekly cleaning the first time if you're starting out from way behind. If only I could get results just from reading the book. . .

My house has never been cleaner!

I've always tried to keep a fairly clean (2,600 sq. ft.) house. My friends thought I was successful, too. But after the first "Speed Cleaning" pass through my house, I can honestly say that my house has never been cleaner. Yes, it took over 5 hours to complete the job the first time. But I can see that once the initial "baseline" cleaning job is done, the weekly trip through the house will be much faster. There are great tips in here for how to clean things, what tools and cleaning agents to use, how to enlist help from your family and more.If you want to buy the "right" tools, you can obtain reasonable facsimiles of the recommended products at Home Depot and Target/Wal-Mart for a lot less dough.I would recommend this book for anyone who wants a cleaner house, but is overwhelmed at the prospect of attacking the cobwebs in the corners or the dustbunnies under the beds. You'll learn the fastest, easiest, most effective ways to conquer these areas in addition to the basics (scrubbing the bathrooms, kitchen, dusting EVERYTHING, etc.)This book is not for ridding your house of too much stuff. In fact, if clutter is a problem that needs to be attacked before the real cleaning begins, I recommend Campbell's other book, "Clutter Control" or "How Not to be a Messie" by Sandra Felton. Both give detailed instructions and guidelines on how to reduce the amount of stuff in your home. If this is a problem for you, you will be amazed at how freeing it is to discard things. The more you discard, the more you will want to discard, so motivation to complete the project is sort of self-perpetuating.
