Son of Texas

Belle Doe suffered a horrible ordeal. The trauma of abuse plus being shot in the head has erased her memory. Caleb McCain is a Texas Ranger who has helped Belle try and recover physically and emotionally. Belle suddenly remembers that her real name is Josie Marie Beckett. This begins the process of discovering who she is and where she comes from. Although this is wonderful news for Josie, it is bittersweet because her Dr. Insists that her relationship with Caleb back off so she can move on with her real life. Neither Josie nor Caleb are happy about it but they feel it's probably for the best. Their unspoken attraction to each other is pushed aside while they head for Josie's real home and real life. As the pieces of her life slowly come back some of them are happy some confusing and some scary. After a time Caleb and Josie realize that Josie is still very much in danger. As they work together to figure out what happened to her and why, their relationship continues to become even closer, but when Josie gets her memory back will there still be room for Caleb in her life? Son Of Texas has a good storyline filled with suspense. I could really feel Caleb's angst and I was rooting for him throughout the story. Josie's emotions are also clearly expressed and I sympathized with her plight. The romance between Caleb and Josie is mostly bittersweet though and the surrounding characters were a little weak. As a result, I never felt drawn into the story. The ending is very sweet though. Its tenderness gave me chills. Nannette Reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

Gentle Suspense - With Disappointing Traits . . . 3.5 Stars

Caleb McCain could not imagine anyone wanting to hurt "Belle Doe" and yet, she had been left on the streets of Austin to die. As a Texas Ranger, Caleb was her protector. Yet, as a man, Caleb wanted more! Unfortunately, when Belle's memory returned, her feelings would change, and she eventually would break his heart, for Belle's future belonged with another man. Until then, Caleb McCain would only be the investigating ranger. She was beautiful and he would remember her for the rest of his life. As her memory slowly returned, he knew it was time to move on. "Josie Belle" was a fighter and a survivor and she was easing away from him. He promised himself, he would only stay until she regained her memory and then he would go. Until then, he would find the person who wanted Joscelyn Marie Beckett dead! After the nightmare, Texas Ranger Caleb McCain was the first person Belle trusted and she still needed him. Yet, she knew her journey back was a necessity and she forced herself to concentrate, but what did the future hold? They would always be friends, but would that be enough? After all, how do you say goodbye to someone you cherish . . . and today . . . she had remembered her name. She was Joscelyn Marie Beckett . . . and soon she wouldn't need him! Comments: Linda Warren writes a suspenseful little tale, but the entire story had the ring of a nighttime soap opera - "Southfork/Ewings/Dallas!" Furthermore, SON OF TEXAS is a sequel and there is the overwhelming sensation of starting at midpoint. In addition, Ms. Warren relies on the art of repetitiveness and certainly most experienced readers will readily notice this fulsome trait! MaryGrace Meloche.

delightful romantic suspense thriller

Belle Doe cannot remember who she is until the moment her Texas Ranger Caleb McCain found her. He knows someone wants her dead so the dedicated law enforcement official plans to stay diligent in keeping Belle safe. However, he also finds himself attracted to his ward though he knows once she recovers from her amnesia she will go home assuming it is safe to do so. As Belle begins to remember that she is Josie Marie Beckett, she realizes she has a fiancé Eric who she must return to, but also concludes she will miss her caring dedicated Ranger. Still she does not remember why someone wants her dead so Caleb remains at her side until they can stop the unknown culprit. SON OF TEXAS is a delightful romantic suspense thriller that emphasizes the changes to Belle Doe as she slowly regains her memory. The story line is focused on Belle whose life dramatically has altered over the past year as she recovers from amnesia and falls in love. Readers will like Caleb and feel for Eric (needs his tale told) as Linda Warren provides a strong character study of a deciding just who she is, Belle Doe or Josie Marie Beckett. Harriet Klausner
