Oliver Murphy came back to Wisperbrook for a fresh start. Something quiet, something manageable. An arts-and-crafts supply store, a tiny apartment upstairs, and the comforting belief that the most dangerous thing he'd face was a rogue hot-glue gun.

He promptly gets adopted by a stray dog with an attitude and strong opinions about personal space. Jasper. Then his best friend Shenise, practical to her core and allergic to nonsense, and Lalo Bravo, theatrical, fashionable, and incapable of subtlety, drag him to a murder-mystery dinner at Specter's Supper Club.

County Sheriff Carter Morgan arrives to investigate. He is steady, capable, and annoyingly hard to look away from, which would be fine if Oliver's long-standing crush didn't decide to resurface at the most inconvenient time possible.

Now Oliver is tangled up in a real investigation, surrounded by suspects who smile too easily and details that do not add up. Good thing he has one skill he trusts. He sketches. A face, a room, the tiny clue everyone else overlooks. The more Oliver draws, the more the truth begins to take shape. But, if Oliver doesn't connect the dots fast, the next scene he sketches might be a crime in progress.
