Shadows of Magic

By Sarah McCarthy

No one becomes a mage before sixteen. No one until Kel.

And sometimes, doing what's right has horrible consequences.

Kel's older brother, Finn, knows that magic is dangerous, that it destroyed the world he loves.

When power came to him, he attempted to resist it.

But his control slipped, and the violence he unleashed ignited a war between mages and non-mages.

In the aftermath of the horrible disaster he caused, hunted and on the run with the little sister he's desperate to protect, Finn knows he has no choice but to learn to control his abilities.

Meanwhile, Kel finds a power that's as natural to her as breathing, but it comes with a dilemma.

Deep in the forest something is calling to her. Whispering promises of answers about who she is and where she comes from.

But Finn needs her. She can't leave him behind to fight both his powers and an escalating war without her.

Her past won't wait forever, and soon she'll have to choose.

Between a new family she's not sure she can trust and the brother she loves despite what he's done.
