Earl Phelps was born in Macon, GA, and grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. As a self-taught artist, he started drawing at the age five in kindergarten class. Earl founded Phelps Publishing over 40 years ago and published and authored his first book, "How to Your Own Supercharacters". He was one of the first to sell these types of books on how to draw Superheroes after Stan Lee's "How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way" He advertised his books in Marvell and DC comics back in the 1980s and the early 90s before the small ads were discontinued. . Earl has authored and published several books since then. With his easy to learn style of teaching art, anyone can learn from his books. Some of his bestselling books include "How To Draw Supercharacters and Supermonsters" and "How To Draw Magnificent Mammals".

As of the publication of this book, Earl has authored and published over 25 books, Earl's first published book was "How To Draw Your Own Supercharacters" his second book was "How To Draw Your Own Supercharacters II" and his third was "How To Draw Your Own Supermonsters". These three books were combined and titled "How To Draw Supercharacter and Supermonsters".
