Armed Strength for Peace (Arma pacis fulcra) Savage. Armed Strength for Peace is the first of a series historical fiction books covering what is now known as the English Civil War, from 1642 - 1651. It was to be the bloodiest conflict in the history of the British Isles and involved all parts of the British Isles. This conflict like most civil wars divided families, friends and countries. This first book followers the exploits of our fictional character, a young London based printer called Robert Savage. We follow how he is swept up in the political and religious turmoil at the very start of the war and finds himself as a Pikeman in a London Regiment which was loyal to the cause of parliament. From being a newly qualified printer, we see Savage become a hardened skilled soldier and eventually a first-class leader of men. This book covers the very first year of the war, 1642, from skirmishes leading up to the first major battle at Edge Hill and the attempt by the royalist army to take London. Many of the people he comes across are historical figures of the English Civil War and careful research has allowed me to justify their presence with this story.
