Ideal VB intro for Java and C/C++ programmers

I think this book is very good for those people who have some experience of programming in other languages (i can say so for java or C/C++ programmers at least). Book is quick I mean you can learn a lot in very short time (say thanks to your experience in other languages). Book is well compiled but examples could be made more interesting. Some buggy codes in there too, so keep your MSDN CD handy. People who are new to programming should consider other titles like Mastering Visual Basic 6. I must say in this price its no harm to add this book to your collection if you don't already have any VB book.

Good, concise book, if you have some VB background

This book very concise, it needs to be read actively, not just browsed. It assumes that you know the fundamentals of Visual Basic and doesn't lead you step by step through what you already know. If you've already finished one of the beginning books on VB, then you're ready for this one.

Pretty good and useful.

Had a little trouble at first with the code samples, but after debugging some pretty obvious typos, they worked just fine! a great book, if you're already familiar with VB and it's surrounding, focuses on database programming alone.

Great simple tool

It is clear that the scope of this book is not intended for beginners since it aims at teaching Ado basic database programming. It does not harbour on in-depth exemples since it takes for granted that you already know all of these. Likewise, the aim is not to go very deep into the subject but to be a first step in a series of several titles by the same editor. It is just right on target if you are able to fully understand its title in the first place.

Highly Recommended As a Starting Point

Overall, I found this book to be extremely useful. The lessons were clear, concise, and right on target. The book starts out using the new technologies in VB6 instead of dwelling on the older technologies then advancing to the newer ones. The older technologies ARE discussed later in the book to allow for conversion of older projects.A few points though. First, there are numerous errors in the text of the book (although the code is quite accurate). I found most of these to be obvious, but they may cause new users to stumble a bit. Secondly, the book does not go into great detail on large enterprise-wide database systems. It will brush the surface from time to time then explain that it is "beyond the scope of this book." This is understandable since the book is designed as a crash course. One last note. This book assumes at least an operating knowledge of VisualBASIC. This is, in my opinion, a good thing, but may cause new VB programmers to stumble a bit at first.
