Along the way he leans on the two people who have seen all his worst sets and stayed anyway. Callie, his best friend and zine publisher who charges a fee and keeps receipts. Elliot, their roommate, who has been hiding the songs he writes and is slowly learning not to. And then there is Dane, a rising comic with a complicated history and an infuriating tendency to show up and be kind about it.
This is a novel about the specific terror of getting what you wanted. About the difference between performing a wound and writing a life. About what it means to put work into the world when you are still figuring out what you are trying to say.
