Touched my heart like nothing else

I have been quite ill for several years, and have read many many christian books about illness, etc. Nothing, however, has touched my heart and encouraged my faithfulness like this little book. I cannot recommend it highly enough for anyone who is physically or emotionally struggling.

A treasure and a blessing for the hurting

If you or anyone you know have a debilitating condition (cancer, disability, lupus, ms, etc.), PLEASE get this book to them right away! The emotions that no one else understands will be mirrored back to them in a way that will challenge them to depend on God. I've never heard a more realistic picture of suffering. This little book has had a profound influence on my life. Amy spoke encouraging words to me and expressed my deepest feelings in such a poetic way. Amy Carmichael, a missionary to young girls in India, suffered a debilitating injury/ illness that confined her to bed. This book grew out of the pain, restless nights, struggles, and frustrations that ensued. She compiled the devotionals (written for the staff and children in her orphanage), correspondence, musings, and journal entries, and poems from that thorny period in the hopes that God would use them to minister to others in similar situations. In other words, she prayed that a rose-- this book-- would grow from the briar patch of her life. As she experiences the ups and downs of attitude, faith, and energy, honest and poignant observations about the disheartening affects of pain are mixed with metaphors and excerpts of hymns that brightened her day. Each 1-2 page section can be read in any order depending on your current physical and mental state. This is strong medicine-- meant to be taken in small doses. You will be touched.
