Revenant Walk

By Arya Burke

Revenant Walk is a book of memory, escape, and transformation. Chronicling work from the author's teenage years into adulthood, the book explores addiction, abuse, despair, transition, and suicide, before ultimately turning towards life. This is a poetry born from compulsion, a tool to grapple with the harsh shards of being human. Revenant Walk is personal, painful, and primordial. Its title evokes a vision of walking amongst famished ghosts, trying to find a way through.

"There's a gentle, gleaming courage in Revenant Walk, where poetry confronts a desecrated world: puckered landscapes, dead phones, dysphoria. But Burke's language carries us from despondency to safety. Lines shimmer, levitate, leap into a celestial register: 'Dust choked the human race...still we kept on climbing / Slipping up towards outer space.'" Celine Nguyen, author of personal canon
