Outstanding applications for modern readers

I am concluding a series of sermons, preaching through Revelation, and one of my greatest challenges has been finding evangelical writers who are true to the idea that in order to understand Scripture in the 21st century, you must understand what it meant to readers in the First Century. Everyone proclaims that theory, but most abandon it when they come to Revelation, trying to make it fit into dispensational theory or "Left Behind" theory. In addition to looking for John's message to the seven struggling churches he pastored, Maxwell gives fresh, challenging material for the modern believer. The challenge is not to reveal the identity of the big toe on the right foot of some beast, but to reveal the subtle pressures the world, religion, and satan bring against the believer and to learn how to deal with those pressures. Maxwell is outstanding!
