Remembering Leopards

Remembering Leopards is the eighth book in the celebrated Remembering Wildlife fundraising series, which has so far raised more than 1.28m GBP / $1.66m USD for conservation projects since it began in 2016. The aim of the creators is to make the most beautiful book ever seen on a species and to use that to raise awareness of the plight facing that animal and also funds to protect it. Each book is full of images generously donated by many of the world's top wildlife photographers, with 93 contributing this year.

Of all the species featured in the Remembering Wildlife series so far, sightings of leopards are arguably the most coveted by photographers and safari-goers alike. Whether it is their sheer beauty, their aloofness, their agility or simply their ability to disappear, there is something mesmerising about them that wins hearts the world over. And yet, for all the adulation, thanks to human actions, the global leopard population and distribution is in decline and they're now believed extinct in 23 of their 85 original range countries.

Ranging from forests to rocky deserts, savannah to snow-topped mountains, they are incredibly adaptable. From Botswana to China, Kenya to Russia, they occur across Asia and sub-Saharan Africa and in this stunning collection of images, we showcase the lives of all eight subspecies, plus snow and clouded leopards too.

Our mission is not only to celebrate them but to raise urgent awareness that they are in decline and, as always, to raise funds for those working to protect them. Threats include habitat loss and fragmentation, reduced prey availability, the illegal and legal wildlife trade, snares, trophy hunting, ceremonial use of skins, human-wildlife conflict and retaliation for livestock depredation.

We are supported in our aims once again by many of the world's top wildlife photographers, who have all generously donated their work for this, the eighth book in the Remembering Wildlife series. Together, we challenge humanity that if we wish to see leopards continue to live alongside us on this troubled planet, it is now we who have to adapt and change.
