A teacher with this book need not supplement nor create handouts.

Throughout my 26 years as an ESL teacher, one constant has been the need to supplement textbooks, such as by creating handouts to go with them, or drawing additional material from other books to round out the content and objectives. What has delighted me about using this book for the past year and a half in an adult immigrant learner setting has been the fact that I rarely feel the need for anything else for my students besides what is already in this book. Explanations are clear, content of exercises is meaty, readings are inherently appealing as well as developmental (meaning that they help any reader develop understanding and skills beyond where that reader started when beginning the readings and exercises.) I enthusiastically recommend this book for adult learners of English and their teachers.

Excellent Preparation for ESL College Students

I am an experineced university instructor of English as a Second Language. I just began using this text and the accompanying cassette tapes in my classes. This is an excellent series that helps ESL students to prepare to be on a par with native speakers in terms of note taking in their college courses. The series also improves all aspects of listening comprehension step by step. All of my students this trimester have really enjoyed the series and it has been an excellent spring board for fascinating in class discussions about everything from anthropology, mythology, the supernatural and bigfoot to the changing world economy and the environment. I have had only very positive feed back from the students who are using this series. I highly recommend it. This is the best resource of its kind that I have ever encountered.
