Nineteenth Century New York. Lawrence is happily married to the love of his life, the beautiful Evelyn. Life is a struggle in the expensive city, but the happy couple can survive as long as they have each other. Misfortune follows Lawrence as he loses his job and is forced to ask for money to the local loan sharks. After being repeatedly harassed for there payment, Lawrence has no way of paying the sharks back. The sharks send him a final message by murdering Evelyn right before his eyes.
