Assessing world views

This is an outstanding book in assessing various world and life views. One of its most practical chapters was, "Choosing a world view," which includes not only how not to choose a world view, but also some essential elements in choosing a world view. I found it to be a helpful summary of the main points to check when assessing any world view. A couple of the highlights of this chapter were: 1. "Rational inconsistencies are common kinds of cracks" in a world view (p. 232). 2. "Unless a world view can encompass in some meaningful way all the data of the world, it is not a world view. Each world view must be evaluated in terms of how it assimilates the facts of experience" (p. 237). Elsewhere Geisler & Watkins wrote: "God does not permit evil without a good purpose. Even physical evil has a moral impact. For 'God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pain: it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world'[C. S. Lewis]" (p. 34). Highly recommended.
