Janie Dallas bore a striking resemblance to the beautiful singer Vanessa Brandt. She also had a great affection for Vanessa's father, so when the singer suggested that Janie should impersonate her for one week, but apparently a vital week--Janie felt she could hardly refuse. True, as Vanessa was having voice trouble she would not be called upon to sing, but still she felt the whole thing was too much for her, and only the thought of having the constant company and support of Vanessa's close friend, the world famous conductor Max Veldon ,could tempt her. And wouldn't she be out of her depth with Max anyway? Vanessa is an opera singer who has to have an operation but needs to be in New York to meet people for her career. Interesting book, this was not an author I was was familiar with. This is the UK version ,it was published as Harlequin Romance #1550 in the United States.
