This book provides a comprehensive discussion of neurobehavioral issues in stroke. In addition to presenting neurological and neuropsychological studies of cerebrovascular disease, it offers tutorials on the methods of imaging brain structure and measuring metabolism and blood flow. After reviewing the basic biochemical and pathophysiologic aspects of stroke, the authors discuss positron emission tomography, xenon cerebral blood flow, computed tomography of the head, and magnetic resonance imagery. The largest section of the book deals with the clinical and research issues facing professionals concerned with stroke. In particular, localization of function after stroke-induced deficits, stroke-related depression, cerebrovascular dementia, stroke risk factors, and disorders of cerebral vessels are considered. The book ends with discussions of recovery from stroke and of the management of neurobehavioral symptoms.
