An enjoyable and thorough read

I used this book as one of my study resources for the Network+ certification exam. To be honest, I didn't do much studying from this text, I just read through it to get an overview of the subject matter, before getting into a more rigorous study routine. Whether you are planning on taking the certification exam or not, this book is a fantastic read with all kinds of useful information on IT and Telecommunications Networking. Because it is intended to be a study guide, it is also laid out very well and gives enough depth to be interesting but is not overbearing. If you are a home-enthusiast or a network professional, this book servers as a great desktop reference, and also looks pretty sweet wedged between all your other IT books. Trust me on this one.

Excellent Preparation

I am multi-certified and also teach networking technology. This book is a very good introduction to networking and very well organized and reasoned. It does have a few typos, but I have never seen a technical book that did not (and I am a technical editor as well). This book is good prep for the exam. If you are a very experienced and trained IT pro (with perhaps two or three years under your belt) there are better choices, but if you are trying to enter the field with only home computing skills or desktop skills you cant go wrong with this book.

Excellent self study resource

This book, combined with Network+ 2005 Q & A, was my primary resource for Network+ certification prep. Prior to picking up this book, my knowledge of networking was virtually zero. Upon completion of this book, I was able to passed the Network+ certification exam first time out. This book is not an easy read, but contains all the information you will need to know to achieve certification. I recommend it highly.

Excellent presentation for a book!

Excellent book. Every chapter has Review Questions, Key Terms and an in depth Summary, not to mention illustrations, tables (and even pics of how the hardware and cables look like!). Each chapter is well written. The book is deep in material. Some books will throw you into the deep end of the pool for each topic. I like this author in how the reader is gently walked through so as not to get confused. I think its better than the exam cram book. I didn't notice the problems the other poster mentioned, maybe I better read it again to try to find what that person is talking about.
