Natural Religion In India: The Rede Lecture Delivered June, 1891

By Alfred Comyn Lyall

Book Overview

""Natural Religion in India"" is a book written by Alfred Lyall, a British civil servant and historian, that explores the concept of religion in India during the 19th century. The book is based on the Rede Lecture that Lyall delivered in June 1891, where he discussed the idea of natural religion in India and how it differs from the Western concept of religion. Lyall argues that Indian religion is based on a natural and intuitive understanding of the world, rather than a set of dogmatic beliefs and rituals. He also examines the influence of British colonialism on Indian religion and how it has impacted the way Indians view their own beliefs. The book provides a detailed analysis of the various religious traditions in India, including Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism, and how they have evolved over time. Overall, ""Natural Religion in India"" is a thought-provoking exploration of the complex and diverse religious landscape of India, and how it has been shaped by both internal and external forces. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
