A Treasure

I began my 'Daniel Woodrell' journey with "Winters Bone". A spectacular book. Next "Tomato Red" which I also loved. I have now read four of Woodrells books and I cannot say enough about his writing skills, with each book he takes you on a most surprising journey to meet some of the most interesting, lovable and some not so lovable characters. He is a master at what he does, no doubt about that. What is really a surprise, are how his books end, with a wonderful crash landing effect !You will not regret reading anything by Woodrell, and I sure hope he is writing away as I type this, because Daniel, I am going to run out of your books if you don't get a new one on the market soon !!!!

Juice Hardboiled Writing

It?s lightning speed, raw, tenacious, exciting, sophisticated, witty, and some of the best crime writing I?ve ever read. I started reading Muscle For The Wing at 2:40 p.m. and finished at 9:40 p.m., taking a few breaks to eat, walk, chain smoke a pack of Camels and smooch with the freckled one. It?s 9:43 p.m. and I?m hacking at the review, as in, I?m still super-charged from this baby....

Tough, brash, great!!!

This is the third book by Woodrell which I've read and I plan to get to everything he's written. I love his use of language, his intelligent and accurate depiction of low and not-so-low life. With simple economy and smooth plotting, he unwinds stories which surprise us with their developments. I think he writes some of the best characters and paying attention to them and what they are saying and doing in the immediate action diverts us from seeing the motives behind all that. Kind of like real life. I like the Rene Shade character a lot and hope that Woodrell will keep him around for further adventures. This book is very well-written and I recommend it highly!
