Weaving together many different disciplines, observations, and historical facts, Odom carefully constructs his thesis - which basically proves how the three elements making up the title are related and flow from one another. What is of great interest is that this area is grossly neglected, other than the occasional "feel good" books that are paraded around the TV talk shows, or the hypnotic productions from the academic mills.Be aware, however, that Odom pulls no punches, and is refreshingly clear in the light of political correctness. I will not give away the full gist of his argument, but strongly encourage anyone who considers themselves literate and educated to read this book. Ideally, the topics within the book could become the enlightened basis for the development not only of the family but of democracy as well.
Two books in one explain some age-old truths

Guy Odom has put together a fascinating look at when and why civilizations collapse and the role of motherhood in the stages of civilizations. Sound far-fetched? It isn't. Basically, civilizations last approximately 10 generations. As we look at Generation X (#10) today, this concept becomes meaningful. We are truly in the Age of Decadence, as outlined in Odom's book. Additionally, his look at civilizations' progress through the stages and the role of dominant women in the decline of a civilization is mind-numbing. As dominant women become more affluent, they choose to bear less children, while the less-affluent women bear more. As the population shifts, more children are reared by non-dominant (and therefore, less successful) women, facilitating the decline of civilization. Other factors play a role, such as permissiveness and acceptance of lower morality, etc. The premise is frightening and spellbinding, scary and thought-provoking. A great read!
