Moth Over Math
What happens when nature becomes the teacher?
On an unusually warm spring day, Mrs. Keefe takes her class outside for a math lesson beneath the shade of maple trees. As the students begin learning about fractions, Jacob-a boy affectionately known by his classmates as the "Nature Nut"-spots something extraordinary nearby: a giant Cecropia moth resting on a shrub.
The stunning insect quickly captures everyone's attention, transforming an ordinary school lesson into an unforgettable learning experience. As Jacob shares his knowledge about moths, butterflies, and other fascinating creatures, his classmates discover that some of the most exciting lessons can be found right outside the classroom.
A few days later, another outdoor activity leads the students to observe soaring turkey vultures overhead. Once again, Jacob's passion for wildlife sparks curiosity, discussion, and a greater understanding of the natural world. Together, the children learn about animal behavior, ecosystems, and the important role that wildlife plays in maintaining a healthy environment.
Written by award-winning author Virginia Kroll, Moth Over Math is a delightful and educational story that combines science, nature, observation, and classroom learning.
