Perfect Summer Read for a Young Mom

As a young mom, I loved reading Momzillas! It's light...it's fun...it's perfect for any mom who doesn't have time to sit down with a deep, thought-provoking book but still wants to read something while she's stuck outside supervising the kids running through the sprinklers! Kargman's writing style is very casual, and I enjoyed it. The slang, the text messages, the hilarious tangents on kid's TV shows, and the comfy feeling of reading a friend's "Mommy blog" made me love the book. I could relate to Hannah's high school insecurities around the Momzillas and her struggle to find other moms like herself. Don't be put off by the bad reviews. This book isn't great literature--and I'm sure Kargman never intended it to be--but it is a fun read. It's Mommy chick-lit. Throw it in your beach bag and have fun with it!

User-Friendly

My hat's off to authors like Kargman who can write fiction that is so authentic that it sounds autobiographical, and then you find out that they have not lived this experience. Or at least not 100%. I felt like she was writing about my life, on various levels, and it feels so much like you are listening to a friend, (and a very funny friend) that you want to call her up and invite her over. We would have LOTS to talk about! While I love all Chick Lit, the settings and the characters are usually quite far removed from my everyday life, my values, my problems...So this was a really pleasant surprise. I just saw it in a book store and thought it looked interesting, but it really was a very personal experience. And cool, natch.

Good beach read

Stressful times call for entertaining reads....Momzillas is just that, an escape. It's a fun somewhat twisted look into what seems to be an over the top / out of control Mommy scene via upper E.side Manhattan...have to sadly admit, did enjoy the gossip chit chat (we have all been a victim of real life Momzillas!); loved all the daily 'Mommy truths' - none of us are perfect! Multiple fun pop culture references that will just make you smile. Don't over think it, just kick back on your beach towel & enjoy!

Fun and Easy Read!

Momzillas is a fun and interesting look at Motherhood in the vastly competitive world of Mahattan. Jill Kargman does a great job telling a story about a "down to earth" Mom trying to navigate her way through gaining acceptance with the Upper East Side Momzilla's. Yet, in the end, she realizes that Manhattan, although sometimes a tough nut to crack, is not limited to those back biting socialites, and finds her place in the big city. A story that many Moms accross the country, whether from a big or small town, can relate too! I Enjoyed the book immensley and after reading it went out and purchased Jill Kargman's other two novels!

Upper East Sider LOVED Jill Kargman's dead-on portrayal of my neighbors!

For anyone who has ever lived on Manhattan's Upper East Side - or thought about what it might be like to do so - Jill Kargman's HYSTERICAL portrayal of Manhattan's elite mothers is dead-on. One need only walk along Madison Avenue or try to navigate around a baby carriage in Payard to see Kargman's characters leap off of the page and into your face. I've had a friend, who was a prominent physician, move his family back south simply because the admissions process and the tuition for his daughter's nursery school were more difficult and costly than his entire medical school experience! Kargman accurately captures that type of insanity, as we observe these competitive mothers try to out-do and one-up each other in subtle, and not so subtle, ways. Kargman details the bitchiness and back-stabbing of this social strata with great comic flair. What makes Kargman such a gifted writer, however, is that while she could have stayed completely focused on the 10021 zip code, she takes our main character, Hannah - who feels completely out of place in her new surroundings on the UES - into Brooklyn to meet a "Normal" down-to-earth, hip group of mothers. What Hannah discovers, however, is that "Momzillas" exist in every area of society. Kargman's book is a terrific, quick-paced fun, fun read. I laugh every time I walk the UES now, thinking how the group of women I just observed picking at salads at "La Goulue" will surely end up in Kargman's next novel.
