Not quite what I expected

Ok. I first read the review from this book from this site. I sounded pretty good. Learning about PK and Uri Geller. I just got this book today. The first chapter was good. It talked about Uri Geller and how he learned his ability, went on radio shows, and was tested in Labs. Theres a section called "Putting PK to the test". I thought it gave me ways to develop PK, but all it talked about was a man who could guess what the outcome of a dice. Page after page, dice after dice. But other than that the book was GREAT! It talked about people through history who could do PK, hypnosis, and mind over body (Walking on coal and things like that). I thought the book was overall FABULOUS!!!

The Body Can Do Amazing Things

"Mind Over Matter" by Time-Life is part of the Mysteries of the Unknown series. This book contains 144 pages & is dissected into 3 different chapters. Chapter one is titled "Physical Powers of Will." This chapter deals mostly with PK (psychokinesis). Not only is the historical information existent but so is the modern information. Page 1 starts off by talking about Uri Geller & his key bending wonder. Next Time-Life starts by giving a brief background on mind over matter. Sir Francis Bacon is listed & his collection of essays is mentioned (Sylva Sylvarum: Nature History). Time-Life states this as one of the first works that speak on the subject mind over matter. Other famous people that are mentioned are Nina Kulagina, James Randi, & more. The essay at the end of the chapter is called "The World of Poltergeists." In this essay there are frightening pictures of objects moving with anyone touching them along with bizarre & intriguing information on poltergeists (noisy ghosts). There is even a brief section on SHC (spontaneous human combustion). Chapter two is called "Putting PK to the Test" & it consists of scientific side of PK. J. B. Rhine one of the first scientific pioneers is talked about. The two different kinds of PK are also mentioned (macroPK & microPK). There are two essays at the end of the chapter called "Seeking the Sources of PK" & "The Hypnotic State." Both are well written & provide the reader with hard to find information. "Seeking the Sources of PK" shocked me with the different states of brain waves (BETA, ALPHA, THETA, & DELTA). In the second essay "The Hypnotic State" a brief section is devoted to Anton Mesmer & a few stories of what the power of the mind is capable of. The third & last chapter is titled "Mind Over Body." This chapter tells some interesting stories of St. Joseph the flying monk & Daniel Dunglas Home who was said to levitate many times. There is also some mention of Evil Knievel & others who perform near miracles. Finally that last essay in the book called "Turning Visions into Reality." This essay gives the reader some amazing pictures with a short story along side of them. Overall I felt this book lacked the historically background but had excellent modern information on the subject mind of matter.
