Book Overview

""Northcliffe: An Intimate Biography"" by Hamilton Fyfe is a comprehensive biography of Alfred Harmsworth, also known as Lord Northcliffe, a British newspaper magnate and founder of the Daily Mail and Daily Mirror. The book provides a detailed account of Northcliffe's life, from his humble beginnings as the son of a schoolteacher to his rise to become one of the most influential figures in British journalism. Fyfe explores Northcliffe's business acumen, his controversial editorial policies, and his personal life, including his relationships with women and his struggles with mental illness. The book also examines Northcliffe's impact on the British media landscape and his role in shaping public opinion during World War I. Drawing on extensive research and interviews with Northcliffe's friends and associates, ""Northcliffe: An Intimate Biography"" offers a fascinating portrait of a complex and influential figure in British history.1930. A personal account of the life of the colorful newspaperman Lord Northcliffe (Alfred Harmsworth) written by his longtime business associate Hamilton Fyfe. Northcliffe produced the first newspaper, The Daily Mirror, aimed at women. When sales dropped at The Daily Mirror Harmsworth decided to change his original plan. The editor, Mary Howarth, was replaced by Hamilton Fyfe, who changed it to a picture paper for men as well as women. Fyfe also experimented with using different types of photographs on the front-page. They introduced a number of innovative ideas including the sponsorship of events and the exclusive. Prior to WWI, Northcliffe was accused of being a war monger and soon after the outbreak of the First World War the editor of The Star newspaper claimed that: Next to the Kaiser, Lord Northcliffe has done more than any living man to bring about the war. During the war he ran propaganda for the government. Following the war he promoted the use of wireless communication. Upon his death he left three months' salary to each of his six thousand employees. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. What a "knock out ending" for this fantastic trilogy!

Having enjoyed the first two books in the Merry Widow trilogy I was all set to enjoy Sarah's story. She is strong, independent, and a woman who is training and selling horses on her own now that Catherine and Mary have married and have homes of their own. Rio Santee is a man on the run with his two sons. He is accused of murder and is being hunted by killers who are more like animals. He finds Sarah's home in a rainstorm and seeks shelter and food for his sons. Sarah is shocked, but comes to realize she will come to no harm, and decides to help Rio and his sons since he is in dire striates. It never seems to stop raining, which keeps the townspeople away as well as the killers. One of the things that Rio wants to protect Sarah against is that he is part Apache, and although he never fought with the Apaches against the whites, he is an outcast. He suffered a family tragedy when his deceased Irish grandfather left him a house and land. Breeds were not allowed to own property and it was taken away from him with tragic results.Sarah and Rio both have deep secrets that have caused them great pain. As they learn to know one another they find themselves caring about one another and are able to share their pain and through love are healed. I did a whole lot of crying while reading this uplifting romance. Get out the hankie box! And it's got a knockout ending. To me, Sarah's story wraps up this trilogy perfectly with a great heroine and a hero you'll remember for a long time to come. He is phenomenal. I think you will be turning the pages just as quickly as I did. Look forward to a rewarding reading experience and I bet you will be smiling through your tears and cheering for a writer who believes in the power of love. Ms. Michaels, I love your books, your spirit, your creativity, and you write the best dag-gone heroes ever!

you won't forget RIO

This is probably the best of "The Merry Widows" trilogy. Auhtor Teresa Michaels sets an exciting, sensuous pace that never lets up. And beautiful embattled "Sarah" really is a match for the dangerous, compelling renegade Rio - "your worst nightmare." A great read - I loved it.

Uplifting Romance!

Sara's story wraps up THE MERRY WIDOWS trilogy perfectly with a great heroine and a hero you'll remember for a long time to come. A page-turning, richly rewaeding read!

Splendid!!!

Will have you laughing out loud. Catherine and Greg just sparkle with love and laughter. A Very Definite KEEPER!

THIS WAS FANTASTIC!!!! MICHAELS'S WORK IS THE BEST!!!

I'm not kidding when I say that Michaels is a genius in romance novels. I have read The Merry Widows: Mary, and now she hands me this great book called The Merry Widows: Catherine. I loved Lord Romeo, the cat, and the hen. I liked the cat best. I liked Catherine because she isn't afraid of being a tomboy. A woman climbing trees back then was scandalous. I stayed up until 4:00 AM reading it. It was fantastic! I liked Gregory because he was just sooooooooooooo romantic. If Catherine is this good, I can't wait to read The Merry Widows: Sarah. Michaels, your stories are the best!
