M is for Mask: Words in the News

With every new event, be it political unrest, a social movement, or even a pandemic, comes an entire new set of words in the news. Our children are exposed to new vocabulary, and we as parents, and/or educators, are searching for ways to make these events easier for our children and students to understand. M is for Mask hopes to make the conversation about COVID 19 a little easier. Each of these words was discussed with my child. He is now 5 years old and full of questions. We cannot shield children from hearing these new terms. We must engage them in conversation and help them to understand this new vocabulary that exists in our world today. We like to take a new word and say it, spell it, define it, connect it (to our lives), use it, and then own it We learn new words each day, sometimes good, sometimes bad, but always important and necessary in developing kids as students, citizens, and ultimately leaders. If explained in an age appropriate manner, nothing should be off limits
