Longer Then a New York Minute
Spring came much too quickly after a winter with a new baby in the house and everyone still reeling from The Last Profile. Sam and Will love their life with Katie, but Will's business opens for the year with them both feeling conflicted about what that will mean. Will wants to provide for his family, but he must change to do so.
When unthinkable and heartbreaking news arrives through Brandon Lewis' burgeoning instincts and insights, Will and Sam find themselves having to travel to New York when told of their friend's death. It's up to them to find out if the circumstances are clear - suicide or murder. Sam finds a clue while observing the autopsy and the investigation leads her down a path of money, greed, and family dysfunction while trying to honor the life of the man that Sam and Will both have loved.
Not long after, interspersed with solving the circumstances of their friend's death and coming to terms with the loss, Sam is in the middle of counseling an abuse victim on the reservation whose husband blames Sam for his wife fleeing from his vicious attacks. He wants to take his anger out on Sam, necessitating Will and Chief Franklin of the Tribal Police getting involved when threats against Sam's life are made, putting Sam and her family in peril when she is literally hanging by a breath, sliding down a muddy slope after her car goes over the side of the cliff. Was it an accident or intentional?
Will wants revenge on both fronts, but Franklin won't let Will step over that line, not only would it ruin the case, but it would change who he is. Will internalizes his feelings, and in the end, he almost loses the very thing he wants the most.
