We all have stories about who we think we are-about who we think we must be to stay safe, to be loved, to be appreciated. To survive. It's the same with faith. We have stories and ideas about what true faith means. What would happen if we set those aside and simply began to notice what is happening inside us? What happens when we try to know ourselves? Like, where do we hold back in fear? How's our self-confidence? How must faith do we have in ourselves? It's time to get curious-about our reactions, desires, beliefs and feelings. To set aside self-judgment and self-improvement, and simply see what is true now. Then our life becomes a useful mirror. Because our emotional reactions have a story to tell us about something happening inside us, waiting to be understood. Our life and spiritual work will bring us awareness of our hidden beliefs, emotional reactions and destructive attitudes. These discolor our life and bring grief and frustration because, so often, we act at cross-purposes to ourselves. That's why facing ourselves seems so hard. We may be ashamed of what we find. We may try to hide from ourselves and others, or push these parts far away. But it's not possible to make these parts disappear. And it's not necessary. Rather than condemn these parts of ourselves or pretend they aren't there, the work is to become willing to see them. To understand, accept and take responsibility for them. Slowly and gently, with firmness and compassion. These parts are what block our light. This is what's clouding our faith. Faith in life, in humanity, in God-in ourselves. Ultimately, these are all the same faith. They all arise from the same source, from within. What blocks our light-what covers up our faith-is not separate from us. It is a part of us that has become distorted. There is no need to reject this part of us. As we do this healing work, the walls that separate us from ourselves-and therefore from our inner divine nature-begin to dissolve. To walk this spiritual path, brought to us by the Pathwork Guide, is not easy. It asks us to look at ourselves without reservation. To sort out the truth from distortion. We must see what we've been working so hard to hide. We must also set down our fixed and faulty ideas-including about things like faith. We often grow up inheriting ideas about God, Christ, religion and spirituality. We may believe or disbelieve any number of things we've been taught. But it's hard to sort it all out. What's true? What's somewhat true? What's in error? Is it possible to find something we can have faith in? Yes. But to get there-to align with the truth of our being-we may need to let go of old, inherited beliefs. Then, what can emerge may be something entirely unexpected. Faith can feel fresh and alive. In fact, it is alive and well-right now-deep inside our inner house. Faith isn't a handrail to grab onto when a storm arises. It's the firmness that supports us in any weather. Living Light is about the journey to finding this kind of faith-true faith.
