Heartwarming Reminder to Walk Worthy of God's Call
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 16 years ago
Wanda Lee has shared a very personal and warm reminder for Christians to live a life worthy of the call, to embrace God's unique design and "discover the best God has to offer for our lives." Lee addresses the question "Why Am I Here?" through a number of stories, personal testimony, and insights from Scripture and other Christian authors. Those looking for a self-help book apart from God, for a 3-step easy process to figure out God's will for their life and career, or an academic discussion of the nature of calling and vocation will not find it here. Instead, Lee emphasizes frequently that primary call of us to God - not to a career, a location, a spouse or job, but to God Himself. If we trust in him and seek to join Him on His mission, the rest will fall into place. One caution about the book stems from the fact that Lee is the executive director of Women's Missionary Union. Almost *all* the examples in the book of people living out 'the call' are missionaries (short and long term) or people who left business to go overseas. I read the book looking for a balanced look at how we can discern and life out our calling to the glory of God regardless of whether it was in business, Church-service, or as a foreign missionary. I almost abandoned the book as it seems 'accepting the call' meant to become a missionary. Sticking with the book, it seems more like this comes from the nature of her experiences rather than a biased attitude against marketplace ministry. She frequently references Os Guinness, author of The Call: Finding and Fulfilling the Central Purpose of Your Life, who makes it clear that answering the call is not just for 'clergy.' (I would recommend The Call as a must-read, by the way!)
