It is essential for all gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered individuals to know their his/herstory. It becomes even more important to know where to look, for this is history not taught in high school. Gay-straight alliances need to encourage, if not demand an awareness of the roots of the gay rights movement in order not to be co-opted by the mega-corporate establishment.
