LaToya: A Memoir

This is somewhat a typical "boy-meets-girl" love story gone amiss. Ofentse and Victoria cross paths for the first time in the 9th grade in high school. At first blush, they don't subscribe to the idea of an intimate relationship. As a matter of fact, neither one is eyeing the other in the initial instance. From the onset, they grow into each other first as friends and in subsequent years, as best friends. The nature of their friendship is not linea as they keep disappearing from eachother only to be perpetually rejoined at the hip by fate. Ultimately, distance breeds attraction and they eventually venture into an intimate relationship, only to discover that in as much as they were compatible as friends, they are dysfunctional as lovers. After enduring months of toxicity, Ofentse decides to call for a breakup, but soon thereafter, he discovers that Victoria is pregnant with his child whom they eventually decide to name LaToya. This new phenomenon hoovers him back into the relationship where he proceeds to endure a level of toxicity far greater than the kind exuded "pre-breakup". The relationship destroys him emotionally. He begins to make compromising life choices and slips into rock bottom.
