Last Broadcast

It's 1999. Chad Schneider has learned not to trust instructions. His new problem is that technology has started telling him what happens next.

Sometimes three minutes early.

Chad is twenty-two, chronically overprepared, and now firmly embedded in N.I.G.H.T.F.A.L.L., a classified government program tasked with containing technology that has stopped obeying the rules.

Unfortunately, the future has started leaking backward.

Patch notes that describe accidents before they happen.Pagers that receive messages before anyone sends them.Closed captions that finish conversations early.Radio broadcasts arriving from several minutes ahead.Weather systems assigning probabilities to human decisions.

The problem isn't whether the predictions are accurate. Increasingly, they are. The problem is what anyone is allowed to do about them. A warning can save a life. A forecast can change a decision. But once Nightfall starts treating predictions as instructions, the difference between preventing a disaster and causing one gets dangerously small. And across completely different machines, locations, and systems, the same pattern keeps appearing.

Now Chad has to figure out whether knowing what comes next gives anyone the right to control what happens now, while Jaya keeps preserving evidence the official record would rather simplify, Dev keeps knowing just enough to make everyone nervous, and Director Mercer continues behaving like a man who already knows how events are supposed to unfold.

Chad still has no formal field training. He does, however, have improved tactical snack reserves, a Suzuki X-90 that should not qualify as government equipment, and a growing suspicion that the safest possible future may be the one nobody tries to force into existence.

LAST BROADCAST is Book 3 of PROJECT NIGHTFALL, a darkly funny techno-occult conspiracy series where pagers run ahead of time, Windows caches tomorrow, radios broadcast the future, government bureaucracy discovers predictive analytics with catastrophic consequences, and the countdown to Y2K keeps getting harder to ignore.
