Yet another variation

This time, Allan Quatermain (Patrick Swayze) and Elizabeth Maitland (Alison Doody) go looking for her father, Dr. Sam Maitland (John Standing). He is held prisoner by hostile natives, and they want his key to King Solomon’s mine. They are accompanied by a not-so-mysterious native, Umbopa (Sidede Onyulo). Along the way, they are hindered by some bad guys with their own plans. I won't go into all the details, but those who are loyal to the book or familiar with the Stewart Granger movie version may be disappointed. Those less familiar might enjoy it to the end. Few movies can match or surpass a book. And this one doesn't. The screenwriter of the 2004 film adaptation of “King Solomon’s Mines” was Steven H. Berman. Still, it covers most of the others' attempts as a variation on the story. It’s long enough to stand on its own, almost like the book. But it’s someone else’s idea of what we want to see. It’s worth watching as its own take on the story; they added some twists, turns, and new characters. They’re probably trying to give it an Indiana Jones feel. Alison Doody was in an Indiana Jones movie.
