I love Chibi Vampire! If you like the Manga and Anime, then you will find this very entertaining!

"This astrology thing may take some time, Komissar..."

A good story must be compelling. A compelling story must have conflict, but only if it's the right kind! This is the Holy Grail of a great story, but it MUST be right kind. You can't just throw conflict onto a page; it has to be a blend, precisely engineered, or at least heavily debated and thought out. Chibi Vampire excels at providing conflict, the embarassing high-school-crush kind: awkward situations, red faces, totally backward assumptions - mostly situational. Conflict oozes from Chibi Vampire like one of Karin's explosive nosebleeds. Constantly - consistently - the situations these people end up tangled in make me shake my head in consternation. Multiple times throught my reading, I've had to put the book down and gather my thoughts. I usually just laugh silently to myself until the embarassment passes. When someone can grab you and influence your feelings that intimately... THAT is what I call effective writing. I do realize I don't speak for the rest of the world, but I've read enough manga to be able to eyeball what's good and what's not so much. Karin makes my list of "unforgettables." My only concern is, "Why are Karin's boobs so massive?"

Another charming character is introduced in the Chibi Vampire series

This second text novel of CHIBI VAMPIRE that was written by Tohru Kai but features drawings done by series creator Yuna Kagesaki takes place inbetween the second and third manga books. (Actually this presents a slight problem since at the beginning of the third manga book Karin says it's been a week since Kenta found out she came from a family of vampires, an event that happens at the end of manga book 2. The passage of time that goes by in the second novel I'd say would be at least about 2 weeks. Also there's a problem introduced in the second manga book about Harumi, a high school girl who ran away from home and now works at a seedy love hotel, the same place where Kenta's mom Fumio has now gotten a job as a cleaning lady. This plotline doesn't get resolved until the third manga book. This isn't brought up at all in the second novel. Finally, there's a moment in the third manga book where Kenta says it's finally summer break. However, the second novel takes place DURING summer break, while the third manga book starts out when it's the school year. Does a whole 'nother year pass during the events of the third manga book? Those problems aside, however, this is another terrific chapter in the series. It's during summer break. (I guess we're just supposed to discount Kenta's remark in the third manga book about summer arriving.) A series of mysterious fires have broken out in various parts of town. The police suspect arson. Kenta, meanwhile, has been working in various part-time jobs moving people's furniture and walking people's dogs, in addition to working at the Julian, while Fumio works as a cleaning lady at the love hotel. Kenta is on his way to the Julian one day when he comes across China Oriska, a young novice nun about his age who is being harrassed by a lecherous business man who is trying to drag her into his car. Kenta chases the lecher off, and China thanks him. It starts to rain so he gives her his umbrella, then runs off to the resteraunt. China watches him adoringly. Karin, meanwhile, across the street, watches the scene. It bothers her considerably, even though she still refuses to think of Kenta as anything more than a friend. When China gets back to the convent she tells the older nuns about the boy who saved her and gave her his umbrella. She thinks also seems to be attarcted to Kenta, even though her status as a novice nun forbids such a thing. When Karin gets home, meanwhile, she finds Ren in her room watching T.V. As it turns out, in the latest arson attack a young woman was attacked and blugeoned over the head. She is now being taken to the hospidal, and she is Minori Yokono, Ren's latest girlfriend/blood-source. The next day while working at the Julian Karin hears Kenta saying he should have gotten China's number. This brings Karin under more emotional stress, which conflicts with her telling herself that there's nothing between her and Kenta. Kenta, Meanwhile, just wants to get China's phone number so he can get

Unique look at vampires

I am a goth-manga-loving-vampire-freak! This series was unique on its look at vampires which I enjoyed for the origionality aspect of it. Karin is a adorable, klutzy, shy vampirette and she is also realistic in character. I thought the art in this manga was done well also, I can't wait to buy the secon book! :)
