Even handed description of the conflict

The history of Israel has been one of nearly constant conflict and the Middle East is still considered a possible flash point for major conflict. With so much oil under the Arab land, there is also the potential for worldwide economic disruption. Worth does a good job in describing the history between Israel and the Arabs; the descriptions are even-handed and accurate. The best description I have heard of this conflict is that it is a case of two rights colliding. The Jewish people were nearly exterminated in World War II, largely because there was no nation to provide international protection. Large numbers of Palestinian Arabs were deprived of their historic land and still live in refugee camps. There is also equal mention of the Arab and Israeli terrorist groups; many books do not include the Irgun and Stern gang. These were radical Jewish groups who carried out major acts of terror against the Arabs. With substantial American involvement in the Middle East, every citizen should have a basic knowledge of the history of that area. Written at the level of the high school student, this book provides that knowledge.
