Hysteroscopy and Infertility

Infertility is a common problem, affecting one in ten couples. Hysteroscopy plays an important role in the management of infertility. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the role of hysteroscopy in the diagnosis and treatment of female infertility. We report the results of a retrospective study conducted in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Fattouma Bourguiba University Hospital in Monastir over a 9-year period. The study included women with primary or secondary infertility who underwent hysteroscopy. A pre-established data set was used to retrospectively collect information from medical records. The mean age of the women was 34 years, with a mean duration of infertility of 5.16 years. Diagnostic hysteroscopy was performed on all patients; at least one abnormality was found in 89.64% of cases, including synechiae (45.35%), polyps (23.25%), fibroids (17.44%), uterine malformations (8.14%), tubal obstructions (3.48%), chronic endometritis (2.32%), and adenomyosis (1.16%).
