We all have a little Twyla in us...

I kept hearing music in my head as I read this. Maybe the soundtrack to the movie "Hope Floats". It's the story of a small-town girl whose big city dreams didn't quite work out, her loopy mother in tennis shoes (keep kleenex handy), her funny little son who really really wants a dad...and a guy to die for (after he gets over his big-city lifestyle). The book is smart, sexy, and touching. The reader who thought the love scenes were tame just lacks imagination. When he told her to leave her hair long and wear the red high heels...whew! You don't really need to be hit over the head with clinical descriptions. This worked for me, big time.

Real people, real problems, true love

Interesteing comment below about setting women back. The truth is, a lot of women DO want to show up at their high school reunion looking successful and important. Read this book. What Twyla learns in the end is that life is what you make it, and nothing is more important than friends and family.

An extremely funny, well-written book!

This is a really cute book! Very witty, full of interesting characters. I'm looking forward to Susan Wigg's next book!

Big Hair is Only the Beginning

I'm a fan of this author already but even so, I was surprised and delighted by how much I enjoyed this book. Twyla's an ordinary woman, a single mom, who never harmed a soul but didn't quite get what she wanted out of life...and now she gets a second chance. The scenes in the beauty parlor were drawn from life, I swear. This book made me think and dream and sigh...and reconsider going to my next high school reunion!

A wonderful read.

Susan Wiggs has penned a wonderful, light-hearted story that truly touched my heart. Her characters are absolutley unforgettable. This book is the first in a twelve book series where bachelors are auctioned off in a Wyoming town. What a great start for the on-going tale. This is a must read for Wiggs' fans.
