Book Overview

The Dursleys were so mean and hideous that summer that all Harry Potter wanted was to get back to the Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. But just as he's packing his bags, Harry receives a warning from a strange, impish creature named Dobby who says that if Harry Potter returns to Hogwarts, disaster will strike. And strike it does. For in Harry's second year at Hogwarts, fresh torments and horrors arise, including an outrageously stuck-up...

A review for the condition not a review on the book

Hardcover book came with no dust cover. If I had known, I would not have purchased from this site.

A little disappointed

I ordered this book and was extremely exited but when I opened it the front cover was ripped and the binding was cracked and keep in mind I ordered the book in good condition

For “Good Condition”, this is trash.

There is writing from a kindergartener and circling of words throughout the book. How is this in good condition?!

Poor condition

I love these books and decided to read them again. Bought this one in “good” condition and it was missing 2 different chapters throughout the book!

Missing pages

I ordered this book a few months ago and have just now got around to reading it. I get to what I think is the end of the book, and realize I’m missing the last 87 pages. I’m having to reorder the book and hope this one comes with all of the pages because I don’t want to have an incomplete book in the series.

The book came to me in horrible condition

The book is a great read but the condition it came to me was horrible

ok

I got the book great condition but it had the name Jacob in the book and ugly star drawings I had to white it out, 4 stars.

Quality abysmal

Harry Potter is a wonderful read. I ordered 6 books of the series and was disappointed with the quality they were in. My “like new” copy has yellowed pages, a torn cover, and loose spine. My “good” copy is in good conditions. The rest were “very good” condition and 3 of the four have ripped pages and crooked spines. Very odd. The system might be a little off. I’m not angry though, because each book was about $4 - barely anything.

Harry Potter and the missing pages

Order this book was in pretty good condition but missing 33 pages... skips from page 32 to 65. Very disappointed.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Illustrated Edition

I ordered a "good" condition hardback illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The spine was torn from the front cover - I would consider it more of acceptable condition. The price was good but would have spent more for a used version with an intact spine. Disappointed.

i have it; great book.

I order a very good condition hardcover. I received a hardcover with major damage from a red liquid. The book is warped and barely opens. It pages have red stains all over them.

I receive a smaller book

I bought a specific edition of this book to complete the set, but when the book came even though the covers and the spine matched, the book was smaller that the rest. This is an amazing site but something that would make it even better is if you add better description of the books we are getting. The book looks complete and it's in good condition but i will have to buy it again and hopefully get the bigger book to match the rest.

Disappointing

I ordered a "good" hardcover. Although I did receive the hard copy, the spine is broken, and there is no book jacket. I will not be ordering from this seller again.

Great Purchase

I am extremely satisfied with this purchased. I ordered a hardcover in "like new" condition and received just that. The book is in fabulous condition, it looks brand new. I have read this book many times but needed a hardcover copy for my collection.

I ordered a hardcover version of the Harry Potter and the Chamber of secrets but I recieved a paperback of it. That's the only downside, but the condition of it is pretty good.

Bought this book in hardcover ...

I bought this book for my son’s book collection in hardcover and received a paperback. My son loves having his books in hardcover, and was very disappointing with the paperback book.

Wrong Order!

Like a lot of people before me, I specifically ordered a hardback copy and received a paperback. Seriously frustrated. And it’s not even a good paperback, it’s Acceptable at best. This is apparently a huge problem that isn’t getting fixed and I’m very angry.

Not What I Ordered

I had recently ordered the hard cover version of this book and could not have been more excited to build my collection again. Upon receiving my order, this book was not in good condition and was a paper back. Extremely disappointed with this.

Not happy

I ordered a hard cover copy of this book and got paperback. Thinking the error was on my end ordered another. Then I read the comments. That means I’m about to get another paperback copy. I’ve already complained about the “very good condition” copy of sorcerers stone that was ripped from the binding. They sent me a new one. Guess I’ll have to complain again.

Wrong

I paid for a hard copy of this book and received a paperback. Need this fixed

Not right

I also ordered a hardbacked book and received a paperback. This paperback front cover is torn all over. Not what I would call good or acceptable.

Hardcover?

Received paperback when ordered hardcover...I see that others have the same issue...can I return this paperback?

Wrong format!

Same as all the other reviews...ordered hard cover and got paperback. Wish I would have read reviews before ordering because it’s my only paperback in the series.

Received paperback when ordered hardcover

I received a paperback when I ordered and paid for hardcover. Wanted the whole series to match... all others are hardcover. Make it right? Exchange or refund?

Not what I ordered

I ordered the first 2 Harry Potter books, hardcover with dust jackets. I received Sorcerer's Stone without the dust jacket, and Chamber of Secrets in paperback with a 50 cent sticker on it. I am moving soon and wanted the entire matching set. Although the company did not offer to replace the items, they were good enough to refund my money.

Great!

Having read all the books in English, I picked this up to see what I could make of it. It is extremely well-edited; it keeps the important plot points and preserves all the flavor of the original book. Reading it in French, I noticed some subtle (and really adorable) things that I missed in English, simply becuase I had to read more carefully. I kept my dictionary close at hand, but it really is written on the level of, probably, a 9-year-old.

Excellent book, poor translation

...The translators chose idiomatic expressions particular to certain regions of Spanish-speaking countries, when common words would have been satisfactory. As if that was not bad enough, they also chopped up the narrative. This is not an abridged version, but a truncated one, as if they were in a hurry to finish the book or save pages. If Spanish is your second language, be aware that you may not understand some terms. Just skip them and memorize the names of the translators, so you won't buy another book ruined by them.Yet. . . the story is fascinating and the suspense in the plot is captivating. Even if the Spanish rendition of loses flavor due to poor translation, I was amazed, surprised, thrilled and fascinated all over again, and I was especially overjoyed to share with my daughter the excitement of the conspiracies and the joy of reading.I just hope that when the fourth and fifth books are translated to Spanish, the Spanish-speaking people will get an un-butchered version.

J.K.Rowling did it again!

"Harry Potter und die Kammer des Schreckens" is the German translation of the second Harry-Potter-book. I think I don't have to tell you anything about the story - see the reviews of the English version for details (besides: who wants to read more about the content of such a book than the back page offers - it would spoil some of the fun since the Potter books are in part a crime story!). The translation is - judging from my reading experience - well done and worth reading. The language is not too complicated so the book qualifies as reading stuff for a foreigner wishing to practice his German reading skills. I didn't find any translation mistakes - the language sounded genuine German and was vivid and fun to read. The names (always a problem when translating) are not altered, so some of the flair that comes with the nicely selected names of the original is lost to the non-English reader. But this second book shows that this is the right way to go: there is a name-letter-puzzle which plays a key role in this book and translating that one would have been a very hard task indeed. So the translation receives 5 stars, all well earned for the content as for the translation. My final note goes to the discussion if this book is for adults as well as teenagers or not: anyone waiting for deep insights into the society, mankind and the world we live in will be disappointed when reading this book. But it is by far the best youth book I ever read, 350 fast pacing pages and I never regretted that I bought it. Nobody whants to read Joyce all the time. And when I turn too light reading stuff, I expect quality as well. Here is where this book has its place in the adult market.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry, a twelve year old boy is continuing another fascinating year at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. This second book in the J.K. Rowling series is a must read! Not only do the main characters Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger set out to solve a new problem but, they realize that somebody has opened the Chamber of Secrets. Through trial and error our heroes search for clues to save one of their friends. Again Harry must put his life in danger to save others who are important to him. J.K. Rowling has introduced us to some new characters in book two. We meet a magical elf, Dobby, a new professor, Gilderoy Lockheart and finally Ginny Weasley, Ron's younger sister who joins the famous trio. I liked this book because it was a true page turner. As the reader you can search for possible clues along with Harry, Ron and Hermione. I would recommend this book to anyone over seven years old. J.K. Rowling did an excellent job on this book because it's exciting and full of adventure. I have learned from this book that life is full of tough challenges and problems. No matter how hard it is you have to be brave and trust in yourself to do the right thing.
