Book Overview

A hilarious first novel that provides a peek into the world of the super-rich, super-connected African Americans in Manhattan. Lauren is trying to be an independent woman, starting her own documentary film company, but it's difficult when you're married to Ed Thomas, one of the wealthiest African-American businessmen in the country -- and particularly when he seems to have a roving eye. Manny is an up-and-coming gay real estate agent who arrived...

Loved It!!!!!!!!!

This was one hell of a book. The story was very thought provoking and I found myself just lost in it! I would stay up and want to just keep reading. I do wish that Lauren hadn't been quite so mean to Manny and Tandy. They did deserve it (especially Tandy) but by her running them out of town I felt that she had stooped to their level. I would have gotten my money back and been done with it. Her not talking to them would have been poision enough. I hope that everyone will read this and enjoy it like I did. Happy reading!!!!!!!!!!

$ex in the City...with an interesting twist

I bought this book on a whim in a bookstore, giving it a quick glance and thinking, "Ooo, another $ex in the City" type book. Only after I got it home did I realize that one of the author's was Spike Lee's wife. This, in all honesty, led me to believe that it would be shallow and it's publication purchased by lots of money. I was wrong. Although the book starts a little slow as we slide into the lives of the protagonists, you absolutely MUST read it until the end, which will leave you beaming with gleeful delight. `Nuff said about the ending. The Gotham Diaries is a character driven story of upper crust African American NY Society, and the skeletons buried in the designer closets. You will find yourself entering the inner circle of friends comprised of Manny Marks, a real estate agent who will stop at nothing to climb the social ladder, Tandy Brooks, a widowed socialite who finds herself suddenly without the outrageous income she has become accustomed to, and Ed and Lauren Thomas, a billionaire businessman and his young trophy wife. The plot is simply friendships forged and lost, betrayal, greed, unfaithfulness, power, and above all the burning need to either climb the ladder or fend off your position at the top. Money is power and image is everything, but what will be the final price for your soul? Again, I must stress that you don't miss the ending, it is a stunning climax that will leave you laughing, cheering, and crying. What I really liked was the dimension given to the characters, as long as you keep reading. Just when one side of a character is revealed, Lee and Anthony will turn the mirror over and show you what the other side looks like. Once faced with these fully rounded characters, you begin to understand more of their motivations, and will either love or hate them. The writing style is formatted as if you were just introduced to these people, and the more you hang out with them, the more you find out about them. A very nice, smooth read, Gotham Diaries is still rather short, only 262 pages, which makes it the perfect beach or vacation book, even though you may find yourself drooling for more. Enjoy!

Juicy and Wonderfully Frothy --- FUN FUN FUN

This book is a total summer read --- you just dive into like a cool and refreshing swimming pool and you never want to leave.I admittingly read it in one day: I started it at the doctor's office and came home, plunked down on the sofa and did not get up until almost 1.00 a.m. when I finished it --- it was a juice read. We are not talking Shakespeare but a good way to ewscape for a day in a world of billionaires and high money NYC we all wish we could live in. I just loved it for what it was: escapism and froth .... if I want to learn something I will read that kind of book. This was for fun and I am going to recommend it to all my friends for a fun and light and delightful read.I hope these two keep writing -- I imagine I will love everything they write -- BUY THIS AND SPEND HOURS ENJOYING YOURSELF!!!!

Gotham Diaries

A great book! and a most read! The characters are most exciting. I felt I was actually there sharing the happenings in their lives and could not read fast enough to see how their lives would unfold. Wen I read the last page my only regret was that there was not more to read.

WOW!!! Fun and Fascinating Read

I love fiction that allows me to escape into the world of "glitz". This was an entertaining read and great fun. A page turner that left me wanting more... A MUST READ!
