Liked it as a kid

I read this at the library when I was quite young-- had no idea it was out of print. I'm sure it's the same one from the brief description given here, though I thought the title was "THE Carousel Horse," not just "Carousel Horse." The story is told by Fran, a young girl who isn't very well off, as she meets and befriends Andrea, who is so rich she actually has a real, full-sized, painted wooden carousel horse in her perfect princess pink bedroom. Fran is envious of Andrea's wealth, but as you might expect, Andrea turns out to (I hope I'm not spoiling things for you here) envy Fran's loving though harried mother and her emotionally fulfilling home life, as contrasted with Andrea's material splendor and cold, stylish mother. Pretty standard stuff, but I really liked it as a kid. Too bad this is out of print, I'd like to read it again!

Friendship comes in all type of packages!

When Fran discovers the plans her mom has made for the summer, she doesn't feel too happy. Her mom has been hired as a cook at the Fairchilds' mansion, and she is coming along! The Fairchilds have a daughter, Andrea, who is Fran's age. Andrea is a very rich, very spoiled snoby girl, who has everything she could ever need or want!... She even has a REAL carousel horse in her bedroom.Fran thinks she is a show off, and dreads having to spend time with her, but she discovers over the course of two months that first impressions aren't always right and even true friendship where she least expected it! And she also realises how lucky she is to have a family, to have friends, and to be loved!
