Give The Lady Six Stars!

Cheyenne Roberts is one heck of a woman. She's pretty, she's smart and she's feisty!. And now she's leaving a very successful accounting career in Chicago to return to Montana. Montana - the land of the "big sky", the home of the entire Robert's clan - and Jackson Kincaid.Jackson Kincaid is every woman's dream - a tall, dark and very handsome rancher! While Jackson will admit that Cheyenne has grown to become a very desirable woman, he can't get past the fact that she's his best friend's kid sister. It's up to Cheyenne to convince Jackson that she's all woman now. The chemistry between Jackson and Cheyenne is hot! The simplest encounters between these two will cause sparks to fly - sometimes in the least expected places. One of my favorite secondary characters is Cheyenne's grandfather Slim - the man is hilarious and absolutely shameless in some of his antics! Slim, along with Cheyenne's mother, siblings and extended family provide a loving family as the background for Jackson and Cheyenne's love story. I like everything about For Keeps - the fact that it is written in a first person narrative, the twists and turns that Ms. Sims puts in the storyline, and of course that unique gift Janice Sims has for describing places so vivdly, they appear "postcard clear" in your mind (you'll really wish you were there.) Every reader likes to find that one special story that they can connect with. The one you can read over and over. The one where it seems the writer is so intuned with your own life that she has captured your experiences - or your dreams. Well, For Keeps is my story. I can see myself riding horses across a ranch in "the land of the big sky". I can also see myself in the arms of that handsome Jackson Kincaid! Thank you, Janice, for writing my story...how did you know?

Unlike any book I have ever read

Janice Sims is one of the most majestic writers of our time. She has a knack for knowing what the reader wants and needs.I have read all, save for one,of Mrs.Sims' books.None of them have the plain: boy meets girl, they fall in love, the end, scenario. The only two things these novels have in common are the writer and its own uniqueness. No two books are alike.Whether it's a love triangle,a fictional life form, some kind of danger,or maybe an old coot for a grandfather,Janice seems to obtain and captivate the readers attention. For Keeps,in first-person narrative,is unlike any book that I have ever read.It is explicitly detailed and leaves little to the imagination. The characters and plot are original. For Keeps tells the story of honor, sacrifices for love, friendship, and falling in love again. The adoration and love Cheyenne Roberts and Jackson Kincaid share for each other would make a single person crave for what could be.The characters come to life and make you feel every emotion they are experiencing. This book is awsome in every sense of the word.I'm awaiting Janice Sims' next masterpiece.

For Keeps is one of the year's best romances

Janice Sims has a talent for placing African American characters where many in mainstream America don't expect to find them. For Keeps is set in Montana, where according to U.S. Census Bureau figures, the state's 3,200 African- American residents make up about .04 percent of the total population. That's a story in and of itself! Six generations of Cheyenne Roberts' family have lived in Montana. When For Keeps begins, Cheyenne Roberts is heading home. She has been summoned home from Chicago to the bedside of her ailing grandfather. She has carved out a successful accounting career in Chicago but her heart remains in Big Sky Country with Jackson Kincaid. Although she has had a crush on Jackson since childhood, he sees Cheyenne as a little sister and for him "to look upon a Roberts girl as a sex object was tantamount to incest." But Cheyenne is bound and determined to get Jackson to cross the line....within a year's time. For Keeps has a strong, respectful relationship between the main characters and a wonderful cast of secondary characters. It is told in a bold, first-person narrative that lets the readers know exactly what's on Cheyenne's mind. For Keeps is a wonderful book. I would really love to read more "Josie stories" about Cheyenne's great-great grandmother, a former slave who left Kentucky to carve out a life in Wyoming and Montana.

Romantically Realistic!!

One of the things I love about romance is that there is room for all kinds of innovation. There are so many stories to tell and so many ways to tell them that the reader has an exciting variety from which to chose. And when the author is as talented and creative as Janice Sims, the reader simply cannot go wrong. Without giving anything away, I will say that Ms Sims has indubitably given us a keeper with her latest offering, FOR KEEPS.Native Montanan Cheyenne Roberts has been summoned from her lucrative position in Chicago to the bedside of her dying grandfather. It turns out to be a ploy to lure her back to the family homestead but Cheyenne finds that she really doesn't mind the idea too much. There is a way that she can help her family maintain the family homestead while she is using her college degrees, so it's not like she will be vegetating in Montana. And there is an awful lot of unfinished business between her and Jackson Kincaid, the neighboring rancher that she has been in love with for years.Jackson Kincaid has been burned once in love by someone who thought that city life was the only life for her. He has always felt that Cheyenne was off-limits; she is his best friend's sister and she's too young, besides. But Cheyenne has had his heart for as long as he can remember. Now that she has convinced him that she is truly a woman and not his little sister, can she prove to him that nothing will separate them from the love that is blazing out of control? This book is a real treat. Savor it slowly, because when it is done you are going to heave a huge sigh of regret because it ended to soon. The characters are warm, earthy, sympathetic, the locale is so vivid you will smell the wildflowers and the wood smoke and the plot is romantically realistic. Ms Sims did such an excellent job of depicting the events and the people that it was like watching a movie. But the style of writing was what captivated me from the beginning.I felt like I was given entrance into Cheyenne's soul. I was with her every step of the way because she was such a well thought out and exceptionally well written character. The secondary characters were equally well written. I can't wait until Cheyenne's siblings are given their own stories--these people are too vital to disappear. And Cheyenne's mother had some touching moments of her own that I would love to see explored.By its very nature romance writing tends to be formulaic. The basic boy meets girl format has been around for hundreds of years and will continue for hundreds more. It is the basic principle which guides real-life relationships, after all. But when a gifted and talented writer like Janice Sims tackles that formula, the results are astounding. I have always admired Ms Sims for her willingness to do something different within the accepted structure and she never fails in this regard. This time, though, she has take the genre to a whole new level. This is a

Tantalizing!

Ms. Sims really did her homework on this novel. I can truly say I have been to Montana without physically going. Her mind's eye is exceptionally keen. The sassiness of Cheyenne Roberts and the moral pillar within Jackson Kincaid makes for an extraordinaryly enjoyable story. I truly appreciated the family unity exhibited in this novel. This critic gives this book two thumbs up, a high five and 5 out of 5 stars.
