Fitness for Life: Middle School provides a foundation for students to be physically active and fit throughout their whole lives. This middle school version of the award-winning high school text Fitness for Life meets the new NASPE National Physical Education Standards and state standards, and it is an ideal companion to the FITNESSGRAM/ACTIVITYGRAM assessment program. This book includes everything that made the original Fitness for Life one of the most widely used and respected high school texts. They also learn these skills: -Assess their own fitness levels and develop plans for improvement using short- and long-term goals -Develop skills to help them build self-esteem, communicate effectively, deal with peer pressure, and handle other social concerns -Understand how their bodies work so they can move more effectively and efficiently Fitness for Life: Middle School is coauthored by Charles Corbin, a world-renowned expert in teaching lifetime fitness; Guy Le Masurier, who was an editor for Fitness for Life, Fifth Edition , and who coauthored the Children's Physical Activity Guidelines for NASPE; and Dolly Lambdin, a nationally recognized leader in the field. I hated physical education in school. Other than being the school tennis star and only female hardball player, I hated what we then called gym class. Of course, I paid for that later and shame on my parents for helping me get excused from gym class. Fast forward to 2010 --- physical education has changed and is now an attractive option to being fat and unhealthy. In this new edition of "Fitness for Life" the student will learn just about everything possible about getting in shape and staying that way all their lives. This is up-to-date information based on real science. I was amazed at the wealth of information in this book! This is not a dull textbook. It's a fascinating opportunity for students from grade 9 thru 12 to learn how they can be healthy, fit and look great with physical activity and proper nutrition. Moreover, it shows the student what he or she needs to do and how to do it if they want to be fit and look good. And what kid doesn't want to look good? The book is also aimed at secondary PE teachers or for undergrad courses in PE teacher preparation. One thing that impresses me about the book is that is doesn't assume the student has any knowledge of physical fitness. It starts from square one. But, it tests the students knowledge and ability and works with that as a base. Following are the contents of the book. Contents Contributors Unit I. Getting Started Chapter 1. Not a bad book, easy to follow. Had to purchase it for a correspondence class and it was cheaper to buy it here than from the school. (about $10 less)
My ex-wife swore by this book.

My ex-wife swore by this book and I watched as her weight decreased. I got the book and now we have a bet on who is going to lose the weight first. Six meals a day sounded pretty good, so I thought I would try it. I just started but I know it works because I watched her do it.
Correct book for correspondence course

My daughter is taking a correspondence course from Texas Tech. The course is "Foundations in Personal Fitness", which she needs in order to graduate from high school. I am giving this book 5 stars because it is the correct book and edition required by Texas Tech, as of July 2005. I don't know how good the book is, but every few days she brings up something that she learned from this book.
